Stan Wawrinka, the Swiss tennis professional, has the career highest ranking of world no 3 in ATP. The 37-year-old also has three Grand Slam victories and 16 titles in total. Stan always maintains his domination on the court. However, because of an injury, he was on the sidelines for quite some time.

Earlier, while recovering, he spoke about his excitement for this year’s Roland Garros. Even so, the question related to his participation bounced back to him after his subpar performance in Monte Carlo Masters 2022.

Will Stan Wawrinka Take Part in the French Open?

Wawrinka’s run in Monte Carlo ended abruptly. He lost the very first game against Alexander Bublik, thus letting people spark questions about his form. While addressing the press after his defeat, he stumbled upon the question about his entry in the red clay of the French Open. To which he replied, “I will ask for a wildcard. That’s what I do for every tournament because I only have nine protected rankings I can use and I want to keep them.”

Following which he admitted, “But I’m sure I will, in the end, have to use my protected ranking because the wildcards will have to go to other players.”

The Swiss tennis ace is currently holding a rank of world no. 232. Though it should be kept in mind that this was his first tournament since his foot surgery in the year 2021.

Wawrinka Against the Big Three

Although Stan Wawrinka trails behind in head on scores, he has had some major wins over the big three. Stan has defeated Djokovic in all three Grand Slams he has won. Further, he also outclassed the Serbian in 2014 and 2015 Wimbledon, where he himself had a run till the quarterfinals. Speaking of Nadal, Stan defeated him in the finals of the Australian Open 2014. Thereby, denying Nadal’s double career slams.

Although he doesn’t have any great wins against Federer, his and Federer‘s pairing has been very successful. They won the gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and lifted the trophy at 2014 Davis cup.
