However, despite several laurels against top-tier opponents, the American tennis star always had a bittersweet experience owing to another dominant figure on the men’s tour. It was none other than this fierce adversary, Roger Federer against whom he had only three victories in their total of 24 H2H matches.

Most notably at the Wimbledon where the American former world No. 1 couldn’t taste any success after getting outperformed by the Swiss Maestro thrice in their championship encounters. But, during that period, the 40-year-old tennis legend also managed to clinch a ‘rare’ victory against the 20 singles Grand Slam champion. Reminiscing about the same, Roddick recently made an eccentric assertion about the Swiss.

The American tennis icon emphasizes his ‘rare’ win against Roger Federer

In the 2008 Miami Open, it was Andy Roddick who prevailed in his thrilling three-set clash against the 42 years-old tennis star. After facing multiple defeats against Roger Federer, the American player finally managed to outshine him 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3, in his home tournament.

Now, after more than 15 years, the American tennis legend recently made a bold assertion about his old rival, Federer. In an interview with the Tennis Channel, Roddick jokingly said, “I own that guy, that guy never had anything against me.”

Following his only second defeat against the former US Open champion, Federer was quite impressed with his opponent. During the recent conversation, it was also brought to light by Roddick who said, “He told me after the match, ‘Andy I think you’re just totally in my head now.'”

Roddick’s other victories against his famous old rival

The American former world No. 1 marked his first triumph against Federer on the hard courts of the Canada Masters in 2003. After a two-hour-long thrilling clash, it was Roddick who prevailed in the fourth-round match of the event.

Apart from this, the 40-year-old tennis legend also emerged victorious against the Swiss during his farewell season in 2012. During the Miami Masters, the American once again outperformed the 20 singles Grand Slam champion on his home soil after a three-set thriller, 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4.
