Grigor Dimitrov, the Bulgarian tennis professional, achieved his career highest ranking of world no.3 in 2017. Currently, he is gearing up to take part in the Barcelona Open, the second clay-based tournament of this year. Although the right-handed tennis ace has 8 career titles up till now, it is far less than what he plans to achieve.

In order to make his idol play him in a movie, he knows he will have to reach a pedestal no one has ever been on.

While catering to multiple questions in an interview, Grigor revealed several little details and stories of his journey. He answered an array of questions about his every first equipment and experience. However, what caught most people’s attention was him speaking about his idol. Upon being asked about his first idol, he said, “Johnny Depp, probably. I was just about to say ‘ some actor’, most likely!”

“I want him to play me in a movie,” he added.

Further, he spoke about how his mother, being a volleyball player, always made him have an interest in sports. However, about tennis, he admitted that there weren’t a lot of sources available for him to watch tennis. Though he somehow managed to get access and addressed the incident, which helped him take the decision of sticking to tennis.

“I think at 16 or 17 years old I got invited to play the junior tournaments of the Queens. In the meantime, we had to warm all the ATP players up. So I got a chance to like see Andy Roddick and Marat Safin. Rafa as well in his early years.”

“So it was super easy for me to be like, Okay, now it’s easy for me to see what they do and how they prepare for the matches. And I think that really helped me and motivated me a lot more,” he said.

Dimitrov’s Monte Carlo Run

Owing to his unique style of playing and flexibility, he can play in any part of the court. Therefore, it wasn’t difficult for the Bulgarian to mold himself into a baseliner, the type of player clay courts favor. Thus he had a great run in this year’s Monte Carlo Masters.

The 30-year-old breezed past Casper Ruud in the fourth round and Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals defeating them in straight sets. However, he couldn’t make it up to the finals as he was outmuscled by the Spanish tennis ace Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semifinals.

Although he fought tooth and nails in the second set to keep himself alive after losing the first set by 4-6, Fokina outclassed him in the third set by 6-3 after Grigor’s second set victory of 7-6.

With Barcelona Open on door set and Grigor Dimitrov in peak form, the Bulgarians will expect a trophy under their country’s name. Grigor will start his tournament on April 20 in the round of 32.
