Jimmy Connors is an undoubted legend of the sport. He played along with John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, and Ivan Lendl, which made their generation of tennis truly special. Many great tennis moments have come out of their rivalry. However, an iconic picture of the four was also taken during their prime, and many have postulated the backstory of the picture. Now, Connors has laid all the rumors to rest and shared the backstory of the picture.

The picture went viral earlier this year when an ‘X’ user shared it on their page. Connors shared a creative comment and asked fans to send their best comments on the picture as well. Now, he has shared the history behind it.

Now a Tennis legend, Connors works on a podcast along with his son, Brett Connors, called ‘Advantage Connors’. In a now-deleted edition, he talked about several aspects of modern tennis but also took some time to dive deep into the history. He also talked about the iconic picture of him, Lendl, McEnroe, and Borg. 

He first announced that he would be revealing it on his ‘X’ page. “This week on @advconnorswe finally answer the question, exactly what look was I going for when we took this photo. 🧐

The history of the picture, as per Connors, is as follows. “Maybe I was country when country wasn’t cool. You know, back then the Western look was kinda cool. Even though we were living in Florida at that time, we were looking to spread out a little bit.”

We came west and looked for a ranch, which we found in Santa Ynez Valley and ended up having horses and things which was kinda cool, but I guess the look was what it was. I got up one morning, and that looks cool so I put it on,” he further explained.

When Brett asked Jimmy if his mother helped with the outfit, Jimmy replied, “I better take that as me being solo, she doesn’t wanna claim that one.

Jimmy first shared the picture as a throwback earlier this year and asked fans to share their best comments for the picture.

Connors asks fans to send creative comments for picture

The American tennis legend arrived a little early on Thursday to share a blast to the past. He shared an old photo of himself and his tennis peers. The original post stated that if the four weren’t tennis players, they could form a good band. Connors agreed with the tweet and encouraged his fans to respond creatively in the comments section.

Connors referred to himself and the three others as badasses and captioned the photo, “4 bad ass Murtr Fkrs”. The picture went viral, and since then, fans have waited for the backstory. Now, they know how it came to exist.
