“It was tough for me”- Benoit Paire

2021 has seen a relative return to normalcy in most aspects of life. Even as Benoit regains his form, he reveals how tough the pandemic was for him, personally, and how it feels now edging back towards a normal tour.

He said, “You know it was tough for me, for one year and a half with the Covid situation. I was not enjoying playing tennis. Playing in an empty stadium, staying in a bubble all week, for me, it is not the life I like. For me I like to go to the restaurant, I like to take a beer somewhere, I like to go to the fast food.”

Being his usual self, Benoit also joked around with the host, engaging in some friendly banter. When called young, he said, “I’m not young. I’m 32 but young compared to you. It’s nice to see you like this, like a commentator. I saw you on tour, now I see you like this. I’m so happy to be with you on tennis channel.”

For the fans, by the fans

Benoit is best described as a showman, courtesy of his unorthodox on-court display. Notably, he enjoys playing in front of fans as much as they relish the sight of seeing him back in action. He said, “That’s why I like to play tennis, to have a connection with people, to try some hot shots and have fun with the people. So that’s why I play, and it was not easy like I said before. But I’m so happy to be on tour, like normal tour, and yeah I really, enjoy. Honestly, I’m so happy to continue and have fun with people. That’s the only reason to play, just to have fun.”
