‘I Went to Serena’s House to Do My Laundry’- Grigor Dimitrov on His Relationship With the William Sisters

Grigor Dimitrov has fans all over the world. He is certainly a crowd-favorite. In every tournament he plays, every stadium he enters, the Bulgarian has a jam-packed stadium, ready to support him. However, even in the jam-packed atmosphere, the two supporters that gave Dimitrov his biggest boost were Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Earlier this year, the Williams sisters attended Dimitrov’s second-round match in Delray Beach. In the match, Grigor outplayed American, Mitchell Krueger.
Dimitrov, beat John Isner in the fourth round to set up a quarterfinal clash against Andrey Rublev at the Indian Wells Masters. Speaking to a media channel post his fourth-round win, Dimitrov recalled his Delray Beach match, with the Williams sisters in attendance.

Grigor Dimitrov elaborates on his relationship with the Williams sisters
Dimitrov was attending an interview with Tennis Channel post his fourth-round win. During the interview, host Steve Weissman asked Dimitrov about the pressure he felt by having the Williams sisters in the stands. The World No. 35 took no time in saying, “So much”, as he laughed off.
He started by going all heart for the sisters, as he opened up about the relationship, he shares with them. “They are such amazing humans. I have such a great relationship with them and I’m so thankful and grateful every time they’re able to come and cheer me up. They are just amazing.”

Even though Dimitrov appreciated Venus and Serena Williams, few words weren’t enough to justify the aura of the Williams sisters. Going further, the 30-year-old cherished the memories he had with the sisters over the years. He also brought to light what aspects of the game he tries to pick up from Serena and Venus.
“Every time I get the chance to talk to them and we share so many amazing memories. I also try to pick up a little bit of their brain in terms of the game, like mental toughness and so on. I think that is just incredible.”
Being a part of the tennis fraternity, players often have a sound and friendly relationship with each other outside the court. Dimitrov is no different. Speaking in the interview, he elaborated about his relationship with Serena and Venus, bringing to light their off-court engagements as well.

“I think now we enjoy a lot more outside the sport. We exercise together, we did quite a bit of gym. I went to Serena’s house to do my laundry there. It was just a lot of fun. We can discuss a lot of different things.”
Dimitrov so far at the Indian Wells Masters
As far as this year’s Indian Wells Masters is concerned, Dimitrov initially was an unseeded player. However, he became the 33rd seed following Djokovic’s withdrawal. Receiving a first-round bye, Dimitrov beat Australia’s Jordan Thompson in the second round. Carrying forward his form, he beat the 31st seeded Alexander Bublik in the third round. In his Round-of-16 clash, the Bulgarian put up a roaring performance to beat John Isner 6-3, 7-5(6) in straight sets.

He will now take on the 7th seed, Andrey Rublev, in an enticing quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
