It raised several questions regarding his persistent foot injury and its impact on the Spaniard’s chances at the French Open. However, the ‘king of clay’ silenced such speculations, and bounced back flawlessly to claim his 14th French Open title.

He out-muscled one of his major rivals, the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, in the quarterfinals and performed brilliantly in the 3-hour-long injury-curtailed match against Alexander Zverev. Thereafter, he outclassed the 23-year-old Norwegian, Casper Ruud, and claimed his 22nd Grand Slam title. Many players reacted to his splendid run and appreciated his efforts.

Nadal defeated the 2022 Geneva Open champion, Casper Ruud, in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

Further, Nadal’s foot injury fueled the rumors of his retirement prior to the match. However, after his 14th French Open victory, he put those rumors to bed.
This isn’t the end for Nadal
While speaking to the press about his victory, the 22-time Grand Slam champion addressed the matter of his retirement. He said, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the future, but I am gonna keep fighting. To try to keep going. So, many thanks.”
