Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis legend, made history today on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Nadal wasn’t at his usual best prior to the Roland Garros, as he tasted defeat in Rome. It raised several questions regarding his persistent foot injury and its impact on the Spaniard’s chances at the French Open. However, the ‘king of clay’ silenced such speculations, and bounced back flawlessly to claim his 14th French Open title.

He out-muscled one of his major rivals, the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, in the quarterfinals and performed brilliantly in the 3-hour-long injury-curtailed match against Alexander Zverev. Thereafter, he outclassed the 23-year-old Norwegian, Casper Ruud, and claimed his 22nd Grand Slam title. Many players reacted to his splendid run and appreciated his efforts.

Several tennis stars react to the 22nd Grand Slam title of Rafael Nadal

Current top players, veterans and rising stars players flooded social media platforms upon Rafa’s victory. Here are some of them. Starting with Stan Wawrinka, who fully agreed with Roland Garros’s tweet which was captioned, “King in his castle”.

While the 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova who seemed extremely proud of his performance wrote, “Rafael Nadal- 14!!!!! That’s the tweet.”

Also, Carlos Alcaraz, the young blood and the 2022 Madrid Open champion took celebrated his idol’s 14th victory and wrote, “Simply incredible. Rafa x 14. CONGRATULATIONS!”

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is a part of the elite list himself, appreciated Nadal’s efforts. The Greek wrote,“Congratulations on your outstanding achievement. It just goes to show that hard work, passion, and a “never give up” attitude really goes a long way. You have put your time, heart, and soul into this, and your perseverance made this #14.”

Further, Daria Kasatkina, who herself made up to the semifinals of the tournament, shared her emotions related to the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s accomplishment and wrote, “This time I will try not to cry.”

In addition, Caroline Wozniacki, the former World No.1  who herself struggled with injuries during her playing days, also got enchanted by the legend’s endeavors. Therefore, she expressed herself by writing, “Unbelievable!! King of clay has done it again! congrats Rafael Nadal.”

Nadal defeated the 2022 Geneva Open champion, Casper Ruud, in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.

Further, Nadal’s foot injury fueled the rumors of his retirement prior to the match. However, after his 14th French Open victory, he put those rumors to bed.

This isn’t the end for Nadal

While speaking to the press about his victory, the 22-time Grand Slam champion addressed the matter of his retirement. He said, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the future, but I am gonna keep fighting. To try to keep going. So, many thanks.”

However, he also revealed his current physical situation to his fans in order to give them an idea of what to expect from him. Even so, the entire world expects the legend to make and break more records in the upcoming months and years.
