‘I Would Like Him to Smile More’: Apostolos Tsitsipas Shows Parental Concern for His Son Stefanos Tsitsipas

In a recent appearance on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, Apostolos Tsitsipas talked about different topics like Stefanos Tsitsipas’ choices, his hobbies, and how his son has become an inspiration for the kids. During the conversation, he also mentioned that he’d like for his son to “smile more”.

Stefanos had a good run in Australia, reached the semi-finals of the opening Grand Slam of the year. However, despite his performances, the Greek was in the limelight for something different. Stefanos was called out twice during the tournament, for on-court coaching by his father Apostolos.

What did Apostolos say about Stefanos? 

During the podcast, Apostolos explained how Tsitsipas has influenced the young generation of Greek athletes. He talked about how because of Stefanos’ success, more children and parents have started taking tennis seriously.  

The interviewer, Jill Craybas, added on to it, saying that a few days ago, she saw kids waiting for Tsitsipas just to smile and say hi to them. In response, Apostolos suggested his son, Stefanos Tsitsipas, should smile more. He said, “I think when he is smiling, it’s all perfect. You know, I would like him to smile more. Maybe this is the only thing.”

Apostolos also talked about their family relations and how he trusts his son to always make the right choices. He also said that he would be always be there for him, whether as a coach or as his father.

Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2022 season

After being forced to exit the Nitto ATP Finals 2021 due to an elbow injury, the World No. 4 started off his 2022 season at the ATP Cup. There, he won his first round-robin match against Diego Schwartzman in 3 sets.

After having a decent run at the ATP Cup, the Greek entered the Australian Open as the 4th seed. Although the 23-year-old faced some tough matches, he fought through them well and reached the semifinals. However, it was Medvedev who halted the Greek’s dream run in 4 sets.
