Lorenzo Musetti reveals his admiration for Roger Federer 

Today, just hours before his opening round match in Dubai, rising Italian star Lorenzo Musetti talked to the press about idolizing Roger Federer while growing up. The NextGen contender has often been heard talking about the Swiss Maestro on several occasions.

Today was no different. The Italian took no time in admiring Federer as he heaped praise on the former World No.1. 

Roger Federer is my idol. I’m learning it, I’m a big fan of it. I would like to be like him in everything. On and off the court.

Musetti’s love for Federer is not just restricted to the sport. Lorenzo also admires Roger for his off-court personality. In an interview given to ATP, Lorenzo confessed his love for Federer’s fashion sense, calling him one of the icons in the fashion world.

The opening clash with Novak Djokovic

After suffering a quarter-final loss to Jiri Lehecka at the ATP 500 Rotterdam, Lorenzo Musetti decided to play in Dubai, where he was given a wild-card. The Italian is all set to face world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the opening round.

Entering a tournament through a wild-card and drawing a stalwart like Djokovic would be a nightmare for any youngster but Musetti has the experience of facing the Serb in the past. The duo had a breath-taking contest at the French Open last year, where the Italian was forced to retire from the match in middle of the fifth set.

“There is not much to say about the draw (laughs, ed). There are only tough opponents in this tournament, I haven’t been lucky, but it will be nice to play on the central full against Djokovic. I’ll try to avenge the defeat of Roland Garros.”

As Novak Djokovic will be playing his first match on the ATP tour in 80 days, he will go all guns blazing and it remains to be seen if Musetti is able to handle the pressure from the Serb.
