Andre Agassi, during his playing days, has dealt with several major issues, particularly in his personal life. There were many things that made the eight-time Grand Slam champion uncomfortable and self-conscious. One of the major ones was his premature baldness. Agassi was always in a state of mind that made him feel like an incomplete person. He expressed how he felt during that time in his autobiography, ‘Open’, published in 2009.

The former American tennis professional used a hairpiece, right from his late teenage years to his mid-twenties. The hairpiece not only caused him physical trouble, but also gave him the constant fear of making a fool of himself in front of the world.

Agassi’s reliance on the hairpiece was a nuisance for him. Therefore, he had to get rid of it and his first wife, Brooke Shields, gave him the required push that helped him muster the courage to embrace his true self. In his autobiography, the former World no.1 detailed the story. He wrote, “I THINK you should get rid of that hairpiece, Brooke says.”

“Impossible. I’d feel naked. You’d feel liberated. I’d feel exposed. It’s as though she’s suggesting I have all my teeth pulled. I tell her to forget it. Then I go away and think about it for a few days.” Despite his ex-wife’s advice, he chose to keep things the way they were.

However, when he weighed other aspects, he turned towards his then wife’s suggestion.” I think about the pain my hair has caused me, the inconvenience of the hairpieces, the hypocrisy and the pretending and the lying. Maybe it isn’t crazy after all. Maybe it’s the first step toward sanity,” he admitted.

“We schedule the ceremonial shearing for late at night, at an hour normally reserved for séances and raves,” he disclosed. Agassi was famous for his on-court rage, which in a way came from his insecurities, such as the one related to his hair.

Although he got rid of this problem with no lasting damage, some issues affected his life deeply. For example, his anger issues, as per Shields, broke their marriage. The couple tied the knot in 1997 and within just two years of marriage, the celebrity couple filed a divorce.

What is Agassi up to these days??

After walking out of the marriage with Shields, Agassi found his soulmate in Steffi Graf, the 22 times Grand Slam champion and former World no.1. They exchanged vows in the year 2001 and are now parents to two children, Jaden Gil Agassi and Jaz Elle Agassi.
