Iga Swiatek became the first Polish tennis player to win the French Open title. She has credited much of her success to having a sports psychologist on her team.
Daria Abramowicz, her psychologist, was with her for the length of the Paris tournament. The 19-year-old feels she has been able to draw a lot of support and strength working with her. She also feels that having a sports psychologist can help other players too. “She understands me and she is a sports psychologist, so both on court and off court she is doing, with me, a great job,” said Swiatek.
Like any other player, it was difficult for the teenager to come off the coronavirus break. She had put herself under pressure to perform and win. “I realized that it doesn’t have a good impact on my tennis and I’m not able to play as good tennis on match(day) as on practice(day),” Swiatek said. “So we tried to change that and we did a great job and I’m really happy that the results of that job is (a) Grand Slam.”

While the teenager from Poland is still coming to terms with her maiden title, she is keen on doing everything in her capacity to achieve greater success.
“I have to get used to this series of new things for me, and I think I’m going to need (a) few more weeks to reflect on it, on (the) whole tournament,” she said. “[The past two weeks] showed that anything is possible… I can actually achieve that and I’m going to do everything to do that.”
