Rafael Nadal is all set to return to action this November. Although the Spaniard won two Grand Slam titles at the beginning of the year, this year has seen him suffer several injuries, which has inevitably led to retirement rumors floating around the tennis world.

After the US Open defeat, the 22-time Grand Slam champion was unsure about his return to the tour. But now tennis fans are thrilled that they will see the Spaniard participate in the South American Exhibition tour. Recently, the world number two Casper Ruud, posted some exciting news about his and the tennis legend’s upcoming tour on his social media account.

Casper Ruud is all set to face Rafael Nadal

The Roland Garros and US Open finalist took to Instagram to share a video that features him and the 22-time Grand Slam champion. Through that video, they announced their participation in an exhibition tour in South America. 

In the video, the 23-year-old talked about playing a revenge match against Nadal. Replying to Ruud’s query, the Spaniard said, “Let me think… Ok, I know what we can do. We can play a match in Buenos Aires. I give you the [chance for] revenge there and if you win; I treat you to a barbecue…”

Continuing on this, he added, “Do you know what? I’ll give you 5 matches to take revenge: one in Buenos Aires, another in Bogota, another in Quito, another in Belo Horizonte and another one in Ciudad de Mexico. Are they enough?” Next month, the 22-time Grand Slam champion and the US Open finalist, who are good friends and occasionally train together, will compete in five matches in South America. The series will start from November 23, and the first match will be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Carlos Alcaraz and Nadal to create history 

After winning the US Open, Alcaraz rose to the top of the ATP rankings, followed by the US Open finalist in second and the 22-time Grand Slam champion in third. After the tournament, the Norwegian tennis player lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in the Korea Open quarterfinals. Subsequently, after losing in the tournament, the 23-year-old has given his spot in the rankings to his idol, Nadal.

Nadal had an exceptional year as he won the Australian and the French Open this year. He became the most successful player in the Open era followed by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, who have 20 and 21 Grand Slam singles victories, respectively.

For the first time in the history of the sport, the top two spots will be held by two Spanish athletes. Additionally, they will be the second pair to take over the top spots since 2000, when Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras of the United States were ranked number one and number two.
