‘I’ll Try to Play as Long as I Can’: Andy Murray Reveals the Truth About His Current Fitness Before Playing in the First Round at Rotterdam

Former British no.1, Andy Murray has been in pretty decent form in 2022. After reaching the final of Sydney International, Murray lost in the second round of the Australian Open. Since then, the 3-time Grand Slam champion is preparing well to take part in the ATP 500 event at Rotterdam.

The 34-year-old British player has been suffering from a back injury for a long time. Last year, Murray went through a long rehabilitation program to get back to his full fitness. It seemed like the rehab paid off, as Murray is all set to compete regularly in the ATP events, starting at Rotterdam.

Andy Murray wants to feel good on the pitch

2-time Wimbledon winner, Andy Murray is all set to play his first match at Rotterdam after the Australian Open. Tomorrow, he will play against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the first round. Before that match, In an interview, Murray talked about competing and feeling good on the tennis court.

“I’m 34 years old and, with the problems I’ve had in recent years, I have to be careful. But, as long as I feel good and healthy, I want to try to play. That’s what the last years of rehabilitation and training were for. I don’t want to feel good in training, I want to feel good on the pitch, so I’ll try to play as long as I can,” Murray stated

Murray is back inside the top 100 in the ATP rankings

After a good start to 2022, Andy Murray moved to 95 in the ATP rankings. Considering all the injuries he has suffered, this is a huge achievement for the 34-year-old Brit. Earlier in the summer, Murray expressed his desire to reach 50-career titles (currently at 46) before his retirement.

Before losing in the second round at the Australian Open, Murray looked in terrific form. It looked like the old Murray was back after beating Nikoloz Basilashvili (in a five-setter) in the first round. However, his form dipped in the second round.

Now, Murray will play and compete at the highest level at Rotterdam to achieve his goal. If luck and fitness stay on his side, he can achieve the impossible. Other notable big names playing at Rotterdam are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger Aliassime, Hubert Hurkacz, Denis Shapovalov, and others.
