In the recent episode of the Advantage Connors podcast, the 71-year-old American legend talked about Djokovic’s big win in Paris that got him closer to his record. Earlier this month, Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov to clinch the Paris Masters title, his 97th ATP title. Connors leads the chart with the most ATP titles at 109. With Djokovic in insane form, Connors feels that the Serb can overcome his haul of 109 titles, sooner rather than later.

Talking about this, Connors said, “I’m a Djoker fan. Yeah, you know, I am because I like the way he plays. He takes the ball early. He’s kind of an old schooler, you know, the way he plays and gets in there and tries to be aggressive on the returns, and, you know, move forward and so forth. I mean, I liked that, because he’s an old schooler and, you know, for him, you know, go for it. Yeah, you know, go for it.”

Further, he went on to add, “If you play another two, three years, or whatever, and, and bypass me, you know, do I like to record? Yeah, but you know, what the f*ck, I mean, your records are made to be broken. You know, and if somebody comes up, and does it, go for it, you know, good on you.”

However, Connors’ record is not the only one that Djokovic can break before ending his career. There are 2 other records that he can clinch.

What other records can Djokovic break?

Djokovic will be playing at the upcoming ATP World Tour Finals in Turin. He is a firm favorite to win the title in Italy, given the form he is in. If he is successful in this tournament, he’ll overtake Roger Federer and become the first player to win 7 ATP Finals titles.

Further, Djokovic can also achieve a unique Grand Slam record in three majors. While he already has the most Australian Open titles, a win each at the US Open and the Wimbledon Championships will ensure he matches the most titles there as well.

One take at a time

Being a die-hard fan of tennis and an ardent follower of Rafael Nadal, tennis has been a part of my life even before I ventured into sports journalism. If I have learned anything from the incredible career of the ‘King of Clay’, it is to constantly enhance your skill sets, no matter at what stage you are in your career. This motivated me to complete an Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management while pursuing my career as a sports writer.
