Playing a singles match at Wimbledon for the first time in four years, former world number one Andy Murray produced top-notch tennis against the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili and registered a memorable victory in four sets.

With the Centre Court crowd cheering for every winner hit by the Brit, Basilashvili felt the nerves as he started making errors on his powerful ground strokes for most parts of the match.

Due credit to Andy Murray for his incredible movement on-court and making Basilashvili always play an extra shot than he anticipated. When the Brit played his second-round match against Matteo Berrettini at the Queen’s Club last week, Murray had issues with his movement.

But, on center court today, it wasn’t the same Murray fans saw at Queen’s. Maybe the familiarity of the surface or the huge crowd-support, the two-time Wimbledon champion found another level and probably surprised himself with his consistency as he won the first two sets in an emphatic fashion.

The drama began at the end of the third set when the Brit was serving for the match at 5-0 as he lost the next seven games in a shocking fashion and handed over the set to the Georgian.

Basilashvili looked down and out in the third. All he did was to keep returning the balls back to his opponent. Tennis, being a game of momentums, saw the match slowly being taken away from Andy Murray.

However, Murray made clinched the fourth set and won his first match in four years at SW19. Talking about that emotional roller-coaster ride of a match, the Brit thanked the fans for backing him up throughout the contest.

“Its amazing to be back out here to be playing again on Center court. Such a brilliant atmosphere. Thanks for that. I did well to win the fourth set in the end“, told the Brit.

“I wanna play” – Murray squashes retirement rumors

Murray also expressed the love he has for the sport and told that he is going to continue to play tennis as long as possible.

“I don’t know why people keep asking me if this is my last tournament or match. I’m gonna keep playing. I wanna play. He is top 30 in the world. I hardly play any match this year and I beat him”, Murray concluded.

Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, also tweeted about the matchup between Murray and Basilashvili.

A fully packed center court crowd was elated to see their favorite player capture an emotional victory after four long years.

In every sense, Andy Murray deserves this much-needed victory as he embarks on a new journey at his favorite tournament from this year onwards. The two-time Wimbledon champion awaits the winner of the opening round matchup between Oscar Otte and Arthur Rinderknech.
