‘I’m Human After All’ – Felix Auger Aliassime Says He Had to Overcome Fears and Doubts to Win His First Title

Felix Auger Aliassime is living his dream this season. The Canadian tennis sensation won his first ATP title at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam last month. He defeated the top seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, in the summit clash 6-4, 6-2. The victory was even more special, as it was his first finals victory in nine attempts.
The 21-year-old has put on some consistent performances over the last few years. It has enabled him to break into the top-10 in the ATP rankings. Moreover, he finished as the runners-up in Marseille, following his victory in Rotterdam. Recently, he opened up on his feelings after finally winning an ATP title.

Felix Auger Aliassime reveals his emotions after winning the maiden ATP title
The Canadian was under pressure to deliver a title win after coming so close on numerous occasions. Speaking about his maiden title victory, he said, “I thought so many times where will it come. I was always confident I would win at some point. But where will it come, with who around, my team kind of changes with weeks.”

Further, he added, “Of course my coach but my mom to be here, she decided to travel more with me this year and this was her first tournament. To have a family member here is very special. I’m a fortunate player to be able to have my family around for these moments.”

On the role of his family, Felix said, “Everybody’s been trying to get this title together, and was a special day for me. It’s something that I have been thinking about and working towards for a while now for the last couple of years since I am on the tour. Now finally the day comes, it’s surely the most special day in my career.”

Speaking about his first ATP title in nine attempts, he said, “Of course I’m happy. But the relief is even bigger. Just because I heard about it many times and it’s not easy. I’m human after all. I live the same emotions as everybody does. I have doubts, have fear at times, I stress like everybody, but I try to do my best.”
