Serbian star Djokovic’s vaccination saga in Australia was a tale of high and low tides. The world no.1 witnessed a number of ups and downs in the matter. It eventually forced Djokovic to leave Australia before the ‘happy slam’ had even began. Novak Djokovic, who is currently playing in Dubai, talked about the widely reported test result that he took in Serbia last month.

Djokovic’s lawyers submitted a handful of documents in his defense, while appealing in the Federal Court for his visa. Out of the many documents, two were RT-PCR test reports of Novak Djokovic. However, it came to notice later that the RT-PCR test performed earlier had a higher serial code number compared to the RT-PCR test conducted initially. 

The discrepancy gave birth to a list of questions concerning the validity of Novak’s test results. Moreover, Questions were also raised on the authenticity of the Serbian Health Department.

Following the concerning issue, the Serbian prosecutor’s office on 2nd February issued a statement saying, “It was established that Novak Djokovic was tested multiple times and the test results from December 16 and December 22 were valid,” as quoted by the BBC.

Novak Djokovic provides clarity on the validity of his test in Serbia

The top-seeded Djokovic is set to open his Dubai campaign against the Italian Wildcard entrant Lorenzo Musetti. The Serbian, ready to get on the court for the first time in 2022, opened up on his RT-PCR test validity, hours before his opening match today.

Novak called the issue speculation by the media, as he went on to say that he is not an IT expert who can comment on how and why it happened. Media has been speculating about it. What I can tell you is what I told everybody. I am not an IT expert. In the last two years, I’ve done so many PCR and rapid tests, like most of the Tour I guess.”

World No.1 further went on to thank the Health Department of Serbia. However, he stayed firm on the word that he is not an expert to go into the details of the matter. 

“I’m not in a position to understand how these tests have been processed and registered. I am glad that Institute for Public Health in Serbia has come out publicly and validated those tests. I am not an expert, I can’t go more into detail.”

Novak Djokovic arrived in Melbourne to defend his Australian Open crown. However, after more than 10 days of intense drama, the 9-time Australian Open was deported from Australia on the eve of the opening grand slam of the year, citing his vaccination status.

Failing to start his season with an eye for a 10th crown at Melbourne Park, Novak is now set to kick off his season eyeing his 6th title at the ATP 500 Dubai. He will start his campaign today evening.
