Tiafoe didn’t have the best of Australian Open campaign to begin with. He suffered a shock defeat against Tomas Machac in the second round. Subsequently, he failed to live up to his top billing at the Dallas Open, losing in the quarterfinals. His best performance of the season came in Delray Beach when he reached the semifinals. Similarly, Lajovic has had an inconsistent start to the 2024 season. While he lost in the first round at the Australian Open, Lajovic had back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at the Argentina Open and Rio Open. In the opening-round contest at Indian Wells, Lajovic got the better of Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets. With a positive start here, the Serb will be riding high on confidence when he takes on Tiafoe.
