After his short stint at this year’s Brisbane Open after a one-year gap, the Spaniard is ready for a spectacular return and complete again. However, before Nadal returns to the spotlight at Indian Wells, he has provided a genuine peek into his preparation, giving light on the realities of his current position as a player.

Rafael Nadal makes a shocking Indian Wells admission
The former world number one knows his priorities straight while he gets ready to give his best on the tennis court. As he is currently getting ready for the Netflix Slam, in a combined press conference with Carlos Alcaraz, he opened up about his preparations for making a comeback and his current plans revolving around his tennis appearances.

Nadal stated, “I don’t know how I am. To be really honest, because at this point I have no choice but to be honest, I haven’t played a set since Brisbane. I’ve had better and worse moments.” Along with that, he also highlighted how he is not aware of what level of tennis he’ll be playing at Indian Wells. But at the same time, he shared the reality that his goal was just to play the Las Vegas and Indian Wells matches for now.
Further, Nadal also talked about his preparations regarding the same. He highlighted, “The preparation for Indian Wells has been bad and for Brisbane had been good. I hope to play a set between this Sunday’s match and the three days I have left before the debut. For me the priority is to try to get out of Indian Wells unscathed.”

Not only that, the 37-year-old Spanish tennis player mentioned that he just wanted to get out of the tournament without any injury or any other problem. Subsequently, he also opened up about his clay season participation, which will come after the American swing.

Is Nadal ready for the clay season?
In the same interview, the 22-time Grand Slam champion also opened up about his plans to play the clay season, which includes the French Open. He clearly mentioned how he is taking it step by step, and as of now, he is focusing on the Indian Wells. However, at the same time, Nadal emphasized the other tournament that he wants to be a part of.
He stated, “I would love to play in Monte Carlo. And then, at this point in my career, I have to analyze how I am at every moment, the feelings I have and where I most want to play. I will try to do “which is better to reach my goals with some option.” Further, he also highlighted how he wanted to do things that make him happy on the court rather than worrying about what’s coming next.
