The 20 times grand slam champion announced in August 2021 that he won’t be competing at Laver Cup this year. In an interview with Laver cup, the Swiss stated that he needs to undergo another knee surgery. “I’m really disappointed to be missing this year’s Laver Cup,” said Federer in the interview. Laver Cup is regarded as Federer’s favorite tournament as he loves to play there.

Roger Federer returned to Wilmbledon with a positive approach. Slowly and steadily, he advanced to the quarter-finals before stumbling against the 14th seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-0. The third set of the encounter was Federer’s first bagel at Wimbledon, ever.

So far, Federer has participated in every edition and has always won for Team Europe.
