Thanasi Kokkinakis stunned the former world number 3, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of the 2024 US Open. The Aussie tennis star showcased a fair bit of resilience in his 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph over the Greek. Shortly after finishing the match, he shared a post celebrating his emphatic victory. Several of his peers congratulated the 28-year-old on this incredible result. However, the comment that took away all the limelight was the one made by his compatriot, Max Purcell. Fans are a bit surprised to know Kokkinakis is a big fan of Sydney Sweeny!

Kokkinakis put up an Instagram post with multiple pictures from his recent match and he captioned that post stating, “We do thisss @USOpen. A few moments later, Purcell came up with a comment, as he wrote, “@sydney_sweeney tell me you saw that?!” Kokkinakis quickly jumped into the scene with a hilarious reply saying, “Hahaha ur so cooked.” This conversation went on for a few minutes as Max Purcell yet again replied Kokk’s comment saying, “Yeah so cooked type shiiii, like forrreallll tho like it’d be crazy if she didn’t see it tho, hella bags.”

Just a month ago, Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated Purcell in the R64 of the 2024 Citi Open. It was fun seeing them keeping their competitive spirit aside and engaging with each other on a light note. Purcell then tried to extend the conversation saying, “For sure she knows who you are,” but Kokkinakis came up with an emoji of a ‘cow’ to end this hilarious conversation.

However, is Kokkinakis the only one from the tennis world who is a big fan of this 26-year-old American actress? Certainly not! In April this year, American content creator Brody had a short yet-so-funny conversation with Ben Shelton. During a Q&A session, he asked the American tennis star about what his reaction was when he heard Sydney Sweeney say that he’s the best up-and-coming player on the Tour. This question was clearly put up for fun, however, Shelton looked a bit surprised when he said, the ‘Euphoria’ actress already knew who he was.

Ben Shelton blushed while saying, “She didn’t say that. That’s cap. There’s no way Sydney Sweeney knows who I am. You’re a liar man, C’mon (laughs).” Shelton’s reaction to this question clearly gives us a hint about his fascination for this renowned actress. However, who are those tennis stars who recently got fascinated with Thanasi Kokkinakis’ performance against Tsitsipas?

“Incredible” – Thanasi Kokkinakis impresses the tennis world with his incredible performance

Shortly after the match, we heard Stefanos Tsitsipas vent out his disappointment surrounding his level in this match. He said he felt his concentration has dropped a bit these days and he thinks his level is “nothing compared to the player (he) was before.” However, for the Australian, this result was more of a “massive relief.” He added that he’s “super happy” and “super pumped” now. “It’s been well documented I’ve had some tight ones, but I’m starting to get on the winning side of them now,” said Thanasi Kokkinakis.

He is now leveled up with Tsitsipas at 1-1 in their H2H record. Several other tennis stars also joined Max Purcell to congratulate Kokkinakis on this incredible result. Frances Tiafoe wrote, “Called this one“, while Nick Kyrgios commented, “Incredible.” Even Alexei Popyrin, Tallon Griekspoor joined the list. Alex de Minaur even went a step further to hail him as the “legend.
