Retired American tennis star Andy Roddick recently came to the support of his former rival, Djokovic, after his rankings improved as he secured his 90th ATP title at the Astana Open. The Serbian tennis star, Novak Djokovic, and the former American tennis player, Andy Roddick, often went toe to toe in tournaments during the American’s time on the tour.

Their constant high-intensive face offs inadvertently led to tensions between the two, which boiled over when Roddick made fun of the Serbian’s injury issues in the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2008. However, their fight didn’t last long, as they have maintained a good relationship since that incident.
Andy Roddick talks about his rival, Novak Djokovic
The Serbian tennis player has added another feather to his cap as he recently won the Astana Open. In doing so, Djokovic has added his 90th ATP title to the list of his impeccable achievements. Following the Serb’s triumph, his former rival, Andy Roddick, came out in support of the 21-time Grand Slam champion.
Roddick talked about the Djokovic’s ATP rankings and the ranking points that he lost at Wimbledon despite putting on a scintillating performance in the tournament. He tweeted, “I’m happy he’s putting these points on the board. It benefits nobody to have him at 7 in the world when his level hasn’t changed. He should have his points from Wimbledon”

The former world No. 1 recently defeated the Greek tennis player, Stefanos at the Astana Open. The Serbian tennis player performed brilliantly at the tournament as he defeated Cristian Garín and Botic van de Zandschulp in the initial rounds of the tournament. Djokovic then went on to beat the Russian tennis player, Karen Khachanov, in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal match, Djokovic got a walkover as the Russian, Daniil Medvedev, pulled out of the match because of an injury.

Roddick and Djokovic were once involved in a locker-room feud
The former American tennis player once revealed that he was involved in a locker-room feud with Djokovic. Roddick stated that they both mocked each other in the locker room during their quarterfinal match at the US Open in 2008. Later, Roddick said that he got into a feud with a player named “‘Schmovak Schmokovic'” during the US Open.
The former world No.1 took a dig at Djokovic’s injuries during his Grand Slam matches. Roddick indirectly said that the Serbian faked his injuries at crucial moments of his matches. Djokovic was furious with Roddick after the American criticized him in front of the crowd. In his defense, Djokovic stated that he was actually struggling with 16 injuries and he wasn’t faking them during the tournament.
