The 28-year-old Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios has been out of action for most of this season due to persistent injuries. However, he never faded away from the headlines during his absence from the court. A few days ago he made his debut as a commentator at the ATP Finals. His remarks during the commentary made the headlines then. He came to the headlines recently again due to his emotional confession as he revealed Andy Murray‘s role in seeing him through the tough times. Let’s find out more about this.

Nick Kyrgios has been very open about his mental health struggles in recent years. Recently, he gave an exclusive uncensored interview with Piers Morgan. In the interview, he publicly thanked the former number 1, Andy Murray for taking action when he saw him struggling with his mental health.

Nick Kyrgios and Andy Murray share a strong bond on and off the court. Kyrgios revealed, once the 3 times Grand Slam winner spotted signs of self-harm on his arm. On seeing that, Murray had asked the Australian about the abnormal physical harm before alerting Kyrgios’ manager John Morris about it. The former number 13, revealed that earlier he used to wear his trademark arm sleeve to cover up these scars on his arm.

Nick Kyrgios said, “Andy was always a big supporter of me. As soon as I came on the tour, he kind of saw a work in progress and took me under his wing. Then he realised later in my career that I don’t think I was coachable or I was on my own path. But he was always someone that was looking out for me.” He added, “He saw it [the self-harm] and he said, ‘What’s that on your arm?’ It was pretty bad at that stage. Andy obviously was trying to give me advice on it. But I was just so stuck in my ways at that time that I didn’t listen. Obviously I’m very thankful. I thank him a lot.

Just like his injuries, mental health issues also have been a persistent problem he has faced throughout his career. In February last year, he posted a lengthy message on mental health struggles through his Instagram post. However, the Australian says he’s a lot better than what he was a few months back. Kyrgios is now seen helping people struggling with mental health issues.

Australian comedian expresses his gratitude towards Nick Kyrgios for supporting him during his mental health struggles

Elliot Loney, the famous comedian who is known for his impersonations of tennis icons like Rafael Nadal has revealed how Kyrgios came to his rescue. The comedian recently expressed his gratitude to the tennis player. Kyrgios flew him to Canberra and hosted him with his family during his mental health challenges. Loney mentioned how important it is not to form judgments based on reputations. He recalled his positive experience with Kyrgios and thanked him for saving his life.
