Recently, the tournament has faced severe criticism from the tennis community after it underwent some drastic changes owing to its partnership with the investment group Kosmos. Since then, many from the tennis realm have used their platforms to express their disapproval of the controversial format.

Even after facing backlash and criticism, the organizers have no plans to change the revamped format. In doing so, they also neglected the opinions of various tennis superstars, including the Australian tennis legend, Lleyton Hewitt. The 2-time singles Grand Slam champion, who previously called these changes “ridiculous” and a “shame”, has expressed his resentment over the news that the Davis Cup organizers are reluctant, as reported by UK Sport News.

A lot of dramatic changes, including the traditional home-away format, best-of-matches, and tournament final’s neutral venue, have disappointed many tennis greats. Speaking about it, Hewitt said that the players have to make huge compromises to play for their country while adjusting to those drastic changes and tweaks in the iconic tournament.

Apart from Hewitt, other tennis legends have also expressed their disapproval over the same, including Roger Federer and Todd Woodbridge. The 20-time Grand Slam champion previously said that he is saddened as the controversial format will affect the next generation of tennis players. Federer stated, “I’m saddened not to have the Davis Cup the way it used to be. It will never be the same again for the next generation.”
