Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open 2022 deportation saga was the most talked-about topic in January. From fans to players to coaches, everyone has been vocal about their views on the matter. After a number of ups and downs in the case, Djokovic was finally deported from Australia just a day prior to the start of the Australian Open 2022. 

On Saturday, February 12, star coach Toni Nadal once again opened up about the matter. Rafael Nadal’s uncle touched on the topic while speaking about the everlasting ‘GOAT’ debate.

The head coach of Rafael Nadal Tennis Academy showed little sympathy for the Serb as he spoke about the saga for the second time. 

“It’s a shame that this happens to the number one

Speaking to Eurosport, Uncle and former coach of Rafael Nadal, Toni Nadal gave his views on the matter. Elaborating on the situation Novak, Toni described the whole incident as a ‘shame.’ He said, It’s a shame that this happens to the number one in the world.”

According to Uncle Toni, the rules need to be followed by everyone. “There are rules and you have to follow them whether you like it or not.” He ended by giving an example to support his point saying, “Nobody likes to pay taxes but we have to do it, there is no other way.”

He also spoke about the ‘GOAT’ debate, questioning the criteria to be called the ‘GOAT.’ “Is it the one who manages to play at the highest level, the one who has the Grand Slam record, or the one who has the most titles?”

Adding on to that, he came out preferring his nephew Rafael Nadal, saying that he would have been the best if he hadn’t suffered so many injuries.

Toni Nadal criticizes Novak Djokovic for his actions

During the deportation saga, Uncle Toni was one of the most vocal people to comment on the matter. He supported the Australian government’s move, saying that it is only because of the containment measures and the mass vaccination that the Australian Open is taking place.

He also criticized Djokovic, blaming him for casting too many doubts through his actions.
