Jannik Sinner Names Roger Federer as His Favorite Tennis Player

Italian youngster Jannik Sinner is already considered a future star in tennis. While he is tagged to take over the reins from the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, the 19-year-old expressed who his favorite player is from the legends of the sport.
“My favorite tennis player is Federer,” Sinner said after winning his maiden ATP title on Sunday. He defeated Vasek Pospisil on Sunday in Sofia, Bulgaria, in a tough three-set battle.
Sinner is still a fresh prospect at the highest level of the sport. However, he has already shown the skills he possesses. He has also shown the ability to remain calm and composed in tough situations, much like his favorite player, Federer.

Which players trouble Jannik Sinner?
Sinner also revealed which players he is afraid of or uncomfortable against and made a couple of interesting picks. At the same time, the confident youngster feels he can always find a solution, no matter the level of difficulty.
“I struggle with players like Medvedev and Mannarino. But there is always a solution to win the game,” Sinner said further.

Sinner defeated one of those players at the Sofia Open. The unseeded champion defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 7-5 in the semi-final.
He has also faced Daniil Medvedev on one occasion in the past. The two men played each other at the Marseille Open earlier this year. Sinner managed to take a set off Medvedev there, but the Russian came back to win the match 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. The world number four is currently playing the ATP Finals 2020, a week after winning the Rolex Paris Masters 2020.
Can Sinner soon challenge the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal?

Sinner, who won the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2019 as an unknown quantity, played some of his best tennis at the French Open 2020. He was the only player who effectively troubled Nadal in that tournament.
He faced the ‘King of Clay’ in the quarter-final and even held set points against him. Nadal came back to win the set and the match in straight sets. But Sinner showed he can challenge the best players on their best surfaces.

With his win in Sofia, Sinner is also the youngest holder of an ATP title since 2008.
