Jannik Sinner Surpasses Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic in This Record

After suffering from an abdominal injury, Matteo Berrettini withdrew from the ATP Finals. As an alternative, Jannik Sinner replaced his countryman in Berrettini. Following this news, the 20-years old became the youngest player to join the ATP Finals since Juan Martin Del Potro in 2008.

Moreover, Sinner won his opening match against Hubert Hurkacz quite comfortably. The Italian smashed five top aces throughout the match to triumph over World No. 9.

Jannik Sinner unlocked one more achievement

Just ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals, Jannik Sinner was at the 9th position in the ATP Race. Unfortunately, Sinner couldn’t make it to the grand event in Turin, Italy. However, Matteo Berrettini sustained a major abdominal injury in his group stage match against World No. 4, Alexander Zverev.

The Italian had to retire in his opening match itself, resulting in good news for Sinner. Jannik Sinner replaced his countryman, Matteo Berrettini to make his debut at the Nitto ATP Finals. By doing so, Sinner became the youngest player to compete at the ATP Finals at the age of 20 years and 92 days since Juan Martin Del Potro in 2008. Del Potro played his first ATP Finals at 20 years and 47 days.

Notably, Sinner is the youngest player to play at an ATP Finals amongst ‘The Big Three’. Roger Federer made his debut at 21 years 91 days, Rafael Nadal at 20 years 160 days, and Novak Djokovic at 20 years 171 days in the ATP Finals.

Non only did Sinner make his debut at the Nitto ATP Finals, but he also clinched his first win in the opening match. In straight sets, Sinner crumbled Hubert Hurkacz of Poland. The Italian capture four out of the six breakpoints, and smashed five aces en route to his victory.

Undoubtedly, Sinner is making some strong statements as World No. 11 looked dialed in in his first match. However, Sinner’s next challenge is the US Open 2021 champion, Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev has won both of his group stage matches and is currently sitting at the top of the Red group.
