Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has time and again proved himself on the tennis court. Being one of the most promising players on tour in his time, the Frenchman has always made sure to give his all while on the field. However, after a gracious career of close to two decades, Tsonga is finally set to retire from the sport at the upcoming Roland Garros.
Being a seasoned player, Tsonga has witnessed the ups and downs the sport has to offer, much closely than the new generation of players. Although the man failed to win Grand Slams, he still achieved some major feats in his 18-year career.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has a major portfolio to his name. In his playing career, he matched against some of the biggest names in the sport. However, the journey of the Frechman didn’t start that way. Just like any other tennis player, he also kicked off his career as a lower ranked player. Climbing the ladder of success, he steadily rose to become a Top 10 player.
By the time his career matured, Tsonga outplayed a number of opponents while himself getting beaten at big stages. However, one thing that always remained constant with Tsonga was the respect he gave to his fellow opponents.

Recently, while taking part in a podcast, Tsonga asserted that he always tries to respect his opponents. Looking at his achievements, he also admitted that he also deserves the same respect. He said, “I always try to respect every opponent. Because me, before to be Top 10 and to be a good player. I was 300 in the world, 200 in the world, and I think I deserved at this time, some respect.”
One must have understood the importance of respect in Tsonga’s life by now. However, one may question what is Tsonga’s way of giving respect? The Frenchman has an answer to it as well. Opening up on how Tsonga respects is opponents, Tsonga detailed, “For me, the best way to respect people is to give everything against them. No matter the name, No matter the place. For me it was something important.”
