John McEnroe retired from tennis in 1992 but has always been involved with the sport. He has provided coverage for the sport and turned from a veteran tennis player to a veteran commentator. McEnroe also dabbled in the on-court adventures of the sport with the Laver Cup. He has led team US in the exhibition event since its conception. However, his stint with them is about to come to an end.

McEnroe stood opposite his rival during his tennis playing years, Bjorn Borg, who never made it easy for him to win. They will lock heads for the last time this year.

The Laver Cup began in 2017 and mirrored the Ryder Cup in golf. In this tournament, players from around the world play against players from Europe to show fans which team was better that year. Team World is led by John McEnroe, and Team Europe finds its guide in Bjorn Borg. McEnroe and his team managed to win the tournament for the first time in 2022 and defended their victory in 2023.

While a dream run, McEnroe shared that this would be the last Laver Cup where he leads Team World. “John McEnroe just said on ESPN that this year will be his last as Team World captain at the Laver Cup,” wrote Randy Walker, organizer of Vero Future tournaments and an author of New Chapter Media, on his ‘X’ page. He announced it while he covered the Australian Open bout of Stefanos Tsitsipas.
