Argentina has been missing its top tennis stars lift the trophies off late. The household name in Argentine tennis, Juan Martin Del Potro, has been out of action since June 2019. He was last seen in action at the 2019 Queen’s Club Championships in London, Great Britain. However, a number of injuries and surgeries have kept the former US Open champion away from the tennis courts.

Meanwhile, top-ranked Argentinian in men’s singles, Diego Schwartzman, started his 2022 campaign at the ATP Cup in Sydney, Australia. He played three matches at the tournament, winning two of those.

However, he was shocked in the opening round of the Australian Open 2022 by the Serbian Filip Krajinovic in straight sets. Following his defeat, he has returned to his homeland and was seen preparing for the clay-court season ahead.

Del Potro was targeting to make a comeback after a long injury layoff at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, during his practice sessions, he experienced discomfort in his knee, making his comeback in the tournament doubtful.
