Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe get praise from legendary coach

Casual tennis fans rarely focus on players below rank 10. However, often, some players succeed in drawing the attention of the crowd. Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton are two such players. Although not in the top 10, they have seen an increase in popularity in this past season. They earned praise from Rick Macci, childhood coach of Serena Williams, in the recent edition of the Tennis Nerd podcast: I think a lot more people, not just because of his serve, they love Ben Shelton now because of his personality. And Frances (Tiafoe), you know, he’s an entertainer, Tiafoe. That means a lot. Okay? He further said that tennis needed more of it because it shows that players are having fun. “So yeah, we need more of that. And I think, because there are more like, of those players near the top 10, young kids will imitate that. Okay. And I think it’s good for the game because it’s entertainment.”
