After a straight-set loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening match of day two at the Laver Cup, Australian tennis sensation Nick Kyrgios revealed a couple of big statements regarding the rest of his season and his future at the Laver Cup.

Right from the start of the year, Kyrgios was very selective in choosing tournaments to play and also made it quite clear that he was only playing to entertain the fans who paid to see him play.

The Australian was part of a couple of entertaining matches at this year’s Australian Open that involved Ugo Humbert and Dominic Thiem.

Even the couple of matches he played at Wimbledon were top-notch before he retired mid-way in the third-round contest against Felix Auger-Aliassime. Since SW19, the Aussie chose to play tournaments at Washington and Montreal before heading to the final slam in New York.

Unfortunately for Nick, both the events didn’t work in his favor as he was ousted in the initial rounds by players like Mackenzie McDonald, Reilly Opelka, and Roberto Bautista Agut. Also, it’s highly unlikely that Kyrgios will play the remaining tournaments for the rest of the year.

Nick Kyrgios confirms that Laver Cup will be his last event for 2021

Talking about the same post defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas, Kyrgios mentioned that Laver Cup will definitely be his last tournament for the year.

Definitely this is my last event of the year. You know, I need to go back home. I have been traveling for four-and-a-half months now. My mum is not doing too well with her health. I’d like to go back and see
her”,
told Kyrgios exclusively.

The Aussie also mentioned about his preparations for the Happy Slam next year. With players already managing their off season to be ready for the quarantine in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open, Kyrgios said that he would kick start his preseason preparation and be ready to perform in front of the home crowd.

Obviously the conditions in Australia aren’t ideal at the moment, but I don’t want to be on the road playing tennis when I want to spend time with my family. Obviously, you know, I’ll get my body right and I’ll start my preseason, spend time with my family for the Australian Open and go from there”, continued the Australian.

“Amazing amount of talent around the world” – Kyrgios on Laver Cup debutants

Also, there was another surprising revelation from Nick Kyrgios when asked about his Laver Cup future.

I’m playing Laver Cup again, and I’m not going to lie, I think this is my last year I will probably play Laver Cup. There is an amazing amount of talent around the world and amazing personalities. You look at the rookies on the team, Opelka and Felix, who are incredible, incredible players”, concluded Kyrgios.

It would be difficult for Team World players to see Kyrgios signing off from the event but there are scores of players who can take his place and produce amazing tennis on-court.

Even the debutants this year for Team World like Felix Auger-Aliassime and Reilly Opelka have proved their merit despite losing both their initial matches.
