20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is a living legend in tennis. Not only does he invoke awe in tennis fans all over the world, but in players on the circuit as well.
The Swiss Maestro has not played tennis since his quarter-final match in Wimbledon 2021. He lost to World No. 9 Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets before exiting the tour due to his knee. Federer underwent surgery for his injured knee for the second time this year and is still in recovery.
Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman has on many occasions admitted to being a fan of the Swiss Maestro.

Diego Schwartzman wishes to see Roger Federer play again
In a recent interview with ESPN, Diego Schwartzman heaped praises on Roger Federer. Firstly, he spoke about how much of a gentleman the former World No. 1 is. In fact, for Diego, Federer is one of the friendliest people on the circuit off the tennis court.
“Roger is a gentleman, he’s perfect on the pitch, but on the outside, he’s even more perfect,” Diego said. He described how the Swiss legend is extremely amiable in the players’ room with other players.

Furthermore, being vocal about his admiration for Federer, Diego continued. “I hope he (Federer) never retires,” he said. “I hope he never retires, really, let him play in a suit if necessary,” the Argentinian joked.

Schwartzman praises Federer’s variation in play
Describing how it feels to be playing against the legend, Schwartzman shared how Federer is always in control. “I’ve had moments from my games with him where I felt playing well and with options,” he says.
However, on the other side, Federer always seems unfazed. “He (Federer) seemed to be bored and that he was going to beat me whenever he wanted,” Diego exclaimed.

In fact, in another interview with the ESPN Playroom in November, Schwartzman had acknowledged that due to his age, Federer’s recovery process has slowed down. In fact, he expressed sadness over his ‘hero’ getting older with age over time.
