Alexander Zverev was looking to enter his maiden French Open final during last week’s semifinal. He had put on a dominating performance in his quarterfinal match against Carlos Alcaraz at the tournament. Further, in the semi-final match against Rafael Nadal, he lost a closely-fought first set. However, the German tennis star suffered a horrifying injury when the score read 6-6 in the second set. As he was trying to make a return, he slipped and twisted his ankle in the process.

Subsequently, he was taken out of the court in a wheelchair for preliminary treatment. A few moments later, he entered the court on crutches and received a standing ovation from the crowd. Recently, further details about Zverev’s injury have been revealed.

Alexander Zverev set to miss Wimbledon

According to reports, the 25-year-old is set to be out of action for around 6-8 weeks. As a result, he is set to miss the entire grass-court season, including this month’s Wimbledon Championships. This comes as a huge blow to Zverev, as he was looking to become the best-ranked player in the world. However, he’ll aim to make a comeback before the US Open in August.

Earlier, talking about his injury, Zverev had said, “Hey guys, yeah, very difficult moment for me today on the court. Obviously, fantastic match until happened what happened. Looks like I have a very serious injury but the medical team and doctors are still checking on it and we’ll keep you updated, we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.”

Zverev moves up a spot in the ATP Live Rankings

After Novak Djokovic failed to defend his French Open title, he dropped to the third spot in the Live Rankings. As a result of his semifinal appearance, Zverev climbed a place to become the World Number 2 as per the latest ATP Live Rankings.

However, his untimely injury setback will have an impact on his ranking as he’ll miss the grass-court season. Nonetheless, he’ll aim to continue from where he left on his comeback.
