In an honest conversation, Rublev labeled his victory against the Swiss maestro as the most special ‘Big 3’ win. While revealing the reasons behind the same, the ATP sensation opened up about how he felt like ‘Rafael Nadal‘ during his match against the 20-time singles Grand Slam champion.

Andrey Rublev reminisces about his ‘fairy tale’ win against Roger Federer
As he has outclassed all the ‘Big 3’ players, the young ATP sensation was asked to pick his favorite among all these victories. In a recent conversation with the YouTube channel ‘More!’, Andrey Rublev opened up about how his 2019 Western & Southern Open win against Roger Federer is his most special ‘Big 3’ win.
The Russian player, who entered the event in Cincinnati as a qualifier, said, “Against Federer, it was like a fairy tale, unreal. How it all came together.” Even though he struggled with his racket during that match, Rublev revealed how he still managed to deliver some ‘impossible serves’ on the court as he also felt like ‘Nadal.’
He said, “Impossible serves, that never happened before, an unexplained second serve that he couldn’t attack, returns, volleys that stayed in with some kind of magic, and mentally it was like I was Nadal.” As he talked about his ‘fairy tale’ victory against the former tennis ace, Rublev also brought to light some background details about that encounter.

Rublev provides some intriguing details about his match against Federer
In the same interview with the YouTube channel, the current world No. 5 opened up about how he ‘shouldn’t have played’ the tournament in Cincinnati as he forgot to sign up for it. Even though he later signed up, Rublev said, “I was the last alternate.”

Aside from forgetting to sign up for the Western & Southern Open, the Russian player also revealed that he was left with a ‘shaky handle’ to play with. Despite these challenges, Rublev went on to beat the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili, Stan Wawrinka, and Roger Federer as he secured a quarterfinal finish at the tournament.
