Andre Agassi is credited as one of the elite players of the game. An 8-time Grand Slam champion and a former World No. 1, Agassi steadily climbed the ladder of success in the game. However, what often gets overlooked are his controversies. Revisiting his active days, the American sensation was quite a controversial player.

One such controversy was his romance with the American singer, Barbra Streisand, in the 1990s.

The controversy shifted the entire spotlight of the entertainment world towards the two; largely because of their age difference. Years later, Agassi recalled his relationship with Barbra, finally giving his opinion about it.

Making his debut in 1986, Agassi rapidly caught the limelight with his impressive performance. However, it was not much time before he became known for his personal life too.

Reportedly, the two had an age gap of 28 years, with Streisand being the older one. Remembering the relationship, years later, Agassi opened up about it in his autobiography, ‘Open’. Taking a bold stance about the relationship, he started by saying, “We agree that we’re good for each other, and so what if she’s twenty-eight years older?”

Additionally, he pointed out the nature of their relationship. Besides that, he called out the public for the kind of attention they gave. He said, “We’re simpatico, and the public outcry only adds spice to our connection.”

Commenting further about his relationship with Streisand, he said, “It makes our friendship feel forbidden, taboo – another piece of my overall rebellion.”

“Dating Barbra Streisand is like wearing Hot Lava,” he further added.

During his active days, Agassi was one of the most loved players on the tour. On the other hand, he also had a rebellious nature. In fact, his fans once hurt him by screaming ‘Come on Andre, image is everything!‘

Even though he rarely came out in public to comment about it, it was at this time that he opted to open up about his rebellious nature.

Ending his relationship with Streisand, Agassi further went on to marry American actress Brooke Shields before later marrying Steffi Graff in 2001. On the other hand, Streisand is married to American actor, James Brolin.
