The Madrid Open men’s draw is finally out today, while the women’s event is already underway. The draw presented us with some fantastic first-round match-ups. Also, there is a possibility we could see some even more entertaining match-ups in the later stages of the tournament. 21-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal is making his return to his first clay-court tournament of the season. In the meantime, Novak Djokovic is still holding on to his no.1 ranking despite playing very fewer matches on the tour this season. Also, he could face a tough opponent in his very first match.

Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic are all in the same half of the draw at the Madrid Open

Right now, in men’s tennis, world no.9 Carlos Alcaraz is the most in-form player who could hurt the top players with his aggressive playing style. According to the draw, the 18-year-old will face Fabio Fognini in the second round. Notably, he recently won the Barcelona Open, which was a great achievement for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, his compatriot, Rafael Nadal, is making his return after suffering an injury at Indian Wells final. In the second round, he could face a tricky opponent in Alexander Bublik. At the same time, the no.1 seed Novak Djokovic could face Gael Monfils in very his first match. Interestingly, all three top players have ended up in the same half. Nadal could meet Alcaraz in the quarter-final and the winner of that match could potentially play Novak in the semi-final.

In another big news, 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray will face the 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the very first match. Although Thiem hasn’t found his right form, he is still one of the best clay-court tennis players in the world. The winner of this match could play Canadian superstar, Denis Shapovalov, in the next round.

It’s always exciting to get the news about a potential match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. However, before that, Nadal could face the fiery teenager, Alcaraz, in the quarterfinal. Previously, both of them faced each other at the Indian Wells semi-final. Nadal got the win by a narrow margin. Meanwhile, Djokovic never faced the young Spaniard, as he’s looking to get his form back before the French Open.
