Andy Roddick said, “This Darwin Blanch trains with Alcaraz, regularly so he has seen what top-level tennis looks like. He has seen the speed with which it is played you know, if I’m as, if I’m Blanch’s coach, I’m going okay, listen, this isn’t the Rafa you know from five years ago.”

A few days ago, the WTA legend’s ex-coach expressed his excitement about the upcoming match and posted a picture of him with the young American. He stated, “Epic opportunity for Darwin as he plays his idol first round Madrid!!”

After going ‘WTF’, Blanch shares thoughts on facing Nadal on the big stage

The American teenager made his debut on the tour earlier this year during the Miami Open with a wild card. After facing a defeat in the first round, he got a wildcard for the Madrid Open, where he will play one of the biggest matches of his career. On finding out that his first opponent was Nadal, Darwin Blanch posted a horrified looking picture on Snapchat with the caption, “Guys I play nadal wtf”.

A few days later, he told ATP.com, “I’m really excited, obviously a little bit nervous. But I’m just really happy to be playing against Rafa. I’m ready to go out and just enjoy every moment. I know there’s going to be a lot of people and they’re going to be against me.” Along with that, Blanch also detailed how Miami helped him play in front of a huge crowd, giving a glimpse of what’s coming next.
