The former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has made his goal for the season clear to all. The Spanish tennis sensation, who has recently dropped to the number three position in his ATP ranking, is all set to gain his rank back. With a desire to overthrow current World No.1 Novak Djokovic, he also acknowledged Jannik Sinner’s recent rise to glory.

The 20-year-old has returned to prime form at the Madrid Open after suffering from a right arm injury. This will be his comeback after withdrawing from the Barcelona Open and Monte Carlo tournaments. The Spaniard lost his top ranking to Novak Djokovic last year at the Australian Open for the first time. He later regained it again, only to lose in the US Open to the Serbinator once more. However, Carlos Alcaraz is not the one to give up so soon. He recently admitted, “Hopefully I can be the one who finishes number 1 this year.”

The Indian Wells winner experienced a lot of ups and downs in his career this season. From losing the quarterfinals of the Australian Open to suffering from injuries on his South American tour, Carlos Alcaraz has not been short on challenges. However, the youngest player to reach the top year-end ATP ranking further admitted that right now his on-court rival, Jannik Sinner, is going to be at the top. “But everything looks like it will be Sinner,” Alcaraz said.

And with Novak Djokovic’s absence at the Madrid Open, he is all set to become the top seed of the tournament. Currently ranked No. 2, Sinner is having one of his best seasons so far this year. Even Alcaraz, who is otherwise ready to perform his best in the upcoming tournaments, admitted Sinner’s excellence on-court. He has also previously acknowledged his opponent’s incredible prowess after winning the Indian Wells tournament against him.

“He’s the best tennis player in the world,” said Carlos Alcaraz about his on-court rival, Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz has always been appreciative of Jannik Sinner’s extraordinary skills on the court. Although he claimed his victory at the Indian Wells finals with a score of 7-6(4), 6-3, Alcaraz was full of appreciation for his opponent. “He’s the best tennis player in the world right now, without a doubt. He’s playing unbelievable. No losses this year,” Alcaraz said after his victory.
