Rafael Nadal is on the final tour of his life, and he is accompanied by his wife and son as he travels around the world. The Spaniard is currently fighting in Madrid as they cheer for him. Rafael Nadal Perello will likely not remember the year he traveled with his father. Understanding the situation, Rafa desires to play longer.

The five-time Madrid Open champion had a fantastic return as he beat Darwin Blanch 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 128. The crowd cheered as Nadal performed on the red dirt. As he sat down for the post-match presser, Rafa was asked about his son being in the crowd. The Spanish great couldn’t help but become emotional.

He said, Well I would like to play a little bit longer and give him a memory of myself playing tennis. That would be the ideal thing for me and for my wife and my family.” Unfortunately, the chances of that happening are very low due to his continuous struggle with injuries. Probably I will not be able to make that happen, but at least happy to have a great team and family and friends around me during almost, well, all my life.

The support of his loved ones helped him achieve happiness despite the current trouble. That helped me in every single way of being happy. That, in some way, makes me feel great, that they are here, but hopefully they’re going to keep being next to me in the future after my tennis career, and that makes me feel great and super happy.

While Rafa wants to leave his son with a good memory of him playing tennis, it is not a sport he would choose for his son. In an interview earlier this year, Rafa shared his plight.

Rafael Nadal would prefer that his son choose another sport

In a recent interview, tennis legend Rafael Nadal had an unexpected wish for his son’s future. When asked about the potential of his son following in his footsteps and making his way onto the tennis courts in a professional sense, the tennis great stated that he would rather have his son opt for another sport. I would prefer that he practice another sport. It pains me to say it with everything that tennis has given me..,” he said.

If he wants to play tennis, I will support him. But if he plays another sport, better…” he added.

Well, Nadal’s son is too young to be making that decision right now. As things stand, he enjoys playing tennis and soccer. If he does pick up tennis, he will definitely have a tough time coming out of his father’s shadows. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
