Novak Djokovic was stunned by Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the Australian Open today. Sinner defeated the defending champion by 6-1,6-2,6-7(6),6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena. With this victory, the 22-year-old Italian has become the first Italian male player since the introduction of ATP rankings to defeat a world no.1 at a major tournament. However, for Djokovic, it has been his first semi-final loss Down Under. Djokovic’s defeat is not the only thing that fans couldn’t digest, as his reaction after the match infuriated them.

How did the 24 Grand Slam title holder react after this defeat? Well, even Novak Djokovic was shocked by his performance. During the post-match interview, he gave a bizarre explanation for his loss. Fans have now started to troll him for his statement.

Novak Djokovic in his post-match press conference said, “I am shocked by my level in a bad way. This is one of the worst grand slam matches I have played.” While the Djoker accepted his poor performance, he also had to face the wrath of fans.

Here’s what he said after the match, “It was a very, very tough match. I started off really well. For two sets, I felt like he was not feeling that great on court so I just tried to keep pushing. Then in the third set, I had a match point and I missed the forehand, but this is tennis.”

He added, “I just tried to be ready also for the next set, which I started off really well. And obviously the atmosphere was so great to play here.” While speaking on the journey towards this remarkable victory he said, “I was looking forward to this match. It’s always nice to have this kind of player who you can learn from. I lost [to Djokovic] last year in the semis at Wimbledon, so I think I learned a lot from that. It’s all a part of the process.”
