The former world No. 8 player was lavishly praised by the entire tennis community after he clinched the Indian Wells title, defeating the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal. Recently, Fritz made a huge revelation about himself being the ‘best American male’ right now.
The ATP star talked about the same in the new Netflix tennis documentary “Break Point.” However, he also said that his remark about being the ‘best American male’ is going to backfire on him. Fritz made the revelation while he talked about his father’s role in his tennis journey.

A slew of fans were impressed to see the American tennis player feature in the new Netflix tennis documentary. Taylor Fritz talked about his stellar tennis journey while growing up in California. Talking about California, he was asked about his participation in his home state tournament, Indian Wells. Fritz answered by saying it is the one tournament where he gets those big results.
He added, “so it’s just good. Indian Wells is one of the most important tournaments for me. I came here as a kid. My dad would take me. My dad coached me pretty much my whole life up until when I turned pro.”

The former world No. 8 player said that his father made him work hard on the court during that period. He further revealed that he wasn’t happy about it and it also caused friction between them. However, Fritz added, “But I know in the end he knew that I’d be thankful for it all and I am. I remember one time we were on center court, and he said, ‘You’re going to want to win this tournament one day.’ You know, I want to make my dad proud of me.”
The American ATP star went on to say that particularly in the US, they’re used to always having someone who’s the best at everything. Notably, Fritz was asked about the best American male right now. He answered by saying, “I mean, on paper, on ranking, that would be me. You’re going to make me look like a cocky a**hole.”
