Marin Cilic has announced that he and his physical conditioning coach, Slaven Hrvoj, will be ending their professional relationship after 11 long years. The pair had an immensely successful run on the ATP Tour, including the US Open 2014 title, a Davis Cup win, an Olympic silver, and many ATP titles.

Cilic took to Twitter to share this news, as he wrote an emotional message for Hrvoj.

Marin Cilic and physical conditioning coach Slaven Hrvoj part ways

The 2014 US Open champion, Marin Cilic, and Slaven Hrvoj have decided to end their partnership after 11 years together. Slaven has also worked with other notable Croatian players Ivo Karlovic and Ana Konjuh over the years.

During their professional tenure, Cilic has grabbed many titles, with the US Open 2014 standing out. In the final, the Croatian beat the Japanese player Kei Nishikori in straight sets to lift his only Grand Slam title.

Marin Cilic took to Twitter to announce this unfortunate news. “After 11 years of incredible success, hard work, and dedication to improving every day, I am sad to say that Slaven Hrvoj and I have decided to end our professional collaboration,” he tweeted.

Moreover, Cilic is extremely thankful for the constant support and contribution from Hrvoj. He added, “It has been a privilege to share many moments with, not only a hard-working professional but also a great friend.” He even added that he will miss their gym sessions and bicep curls, perhaps a tongue-in-cheek comment, with a huge grinning emoji.

Cilic’s professional career

Marin Cilic has won 20 ATP titles in his notable career and been the losing finalist at two Grand Slam events. Apart from the titles, the Croatian achieved his career-high ranking of World No. 3 in January 2018.

Cilic was also a significant part of the Croatian squad which lifted the Davis Cup trophy in 2018. In the finals of the doubles event in Tokyo Olympics 2020, Cilic and Ivan Dodig lost to countrymen Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic, as they settled for a silver medal.
