The entire tennis community is in for some grueling tennis action as the clay court major event is almost underway. Over the past few seasons, the caliber of the competition at the French Open has always managed to fascinate the crowd.

Now, this season, some of the top talents will once again square off with each other in order to clinch the trophy in Paris. Along with their individual titles, the winners also receive sizeable prize money that has recently increased in value according to an official announcement from the tournament.

The prize money at Roland Garros has increased from the previous season

In order to ensure “a more even distribution” amongst the participants, the organizers of the clay court major event have decided to increase the prize money. Roland Garros recently released a statement to announce that there will be a total of €49.6 million ($54.6 million) amount for the participants. It is up 12.3% on the previous season’s Grand Slam event in Paris.

This means that the award money offered to the player in the singles event will be increased by 9.1% on the previous season’s amount. Even at the doubles event of the French Open, the participants will receive an amount that has been increased by 4% in 2022.

Meanwhile, the players who will be knocked out in the initial rounds of the single event will get between 11% and 13% more this season. Both the ATP and WTA players who will clinch the singles title will get a whopping  €2.3 million each.

An increase in award amounts was also seen in the previous season

This is not the first time that the organizers have decided to increase their prize money for the participants. Even during the French Open in 2022, they increased the amount by more than 25% on the prior season. The players received a prize pool of 43.6m Euros, with the champions of the singles getting a whooping €2,200,000 each.

Meanwhile, the participants who reached the semifinal and quarterfinal rounds of the singles event got €600,000 and €380,000, respectively. The runners-up, on the other hand, were awarded half of the prize money as that for the champions.
