Massive News From Stanislas Wawrinka – Will Look to Return to ATP Tour After a 12 Month Hiatus

Stanislas Wawrinka has quietly made his way amongst the elite in tennis. He was often overshadowed by his countryman, Roger Federer. However, Wawrinka has carved a niche for himself over his career spanning around 20 years to date. He is often known as a ‘big match player’, rising to the occasion when it matters the most.

Further, the 36-year-old caught everyone’s eye when he won the Australian Open title in 2014. He defeated Spanish legend Rafael Nadal in the summit clash, claiming his maiden Grand Slam title. Since then, Wawrinka has gone on to add a couple of more major titles, including the French Open and the US Open. Additionally, he also teamed up with Roger Federer to win the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Wawrinka has been struggling from injuries recently. However, he has given some positive news about his potential comeback to tennis.

Stanislas Wawrinka set to make a comeback

The Swiss tennis star practiced on the clay courts in Monte-Carlo. Wawrinka, who has been out of action for around a year now, is targeting to make a comeback at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 next month, which will be just after his 37th birthday.

Further, the three-time Grand Slam champion has had fond memories of playing in Monte-Carlo. His only ATP Masters 1000 title came here in 2014. He defeated compatriot Roger Federer in the summit clash to win the title.

Stan Wawrinka’s injury setback

The former World Number 3 has been out of action for around a year now after suffering a severe foot injury. He was last seen in action in Doha in March last year. Subsequently, he required surgery on his left foot which has taken time to heal.
