The 2024 French Open is the prime focus of tennis personalities. However, Brad Gilbert is equally active on social media. The coach of Coco Gauff is helping his protegee win the first slam of her favorite surface. While many would imagine the entirety of his mind would be focused on Gauff, it sways here and there. A part of his head is stuck on Challengers, as one can see from his recent social media activity.

Carlos Alcaraz played a fantastic match against Sebastian Korda in round 3 of the Roland-Garros. In one point, Korda’s drop shot forced Alcaraz to the net, who gave a good return, which ended with the American winning the point. Bastien Fachan shared a cinematic angle of the video, with the caption, “The camera work on that Alcaraz-Korda point was so cool I set it to the Challengers score.

Gilbert found the post and commented, “Good one☝️ Challengers.” Those who read the first half would imagine he meant the point and/or the camera work. However, the American coach meant the tennis movie. Gilbert is undoubtedly proud of the fact that he worked on the movie and provided directions for tennis scenes, but his is seemingly unable to avoid conversations about the movie.

Gilbert and his wife, Kim Gilbert, were key consultants on Challengers, the new tennis movie starring Zendaya that will be released in theatres on Friday. By January 2022, Brad and Kim were spending most of their time on Challengers. The Gilberts played critical roles in the film, with Brad leading the charge in setting up and leading training for the key members of the cast, headlined by Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor.

One can easily find posts on his ‘X’ page pertaining to the movie, which crossed $80 million worldwide. While the tennis world is looking at the French Open, Gilbert seems to have his attention diverted. His love for the movie has only increased, as he even fell for a troll account on ‘X’.

Fans ask Coco Gauff to take Brad Gilbert home as he falls for a made-up quote

During the Madrid Open, earlier in May, Alcaraz sat down with Tennis Channel for a post-match interview. An ‘X’ user snagged a screenshot of the Spaniard and paired it with entirely fabricated quotes which praised Challengers. “I watched the movie yesterday, and I liked it very much. It was very well made. What is funny is that I have a similar romantic situation with one of the main guys, but I am not going to say which players. I want to keep it a secret,” were the quotes used for trolling.

However, Gilbert saw the bait and swallowed it whole as he went on to tag the official account of Challengers, thinking the post was only praising the movie. Fans found the situation hilarious and couldn’t believe that the coach fell for it. Despite a hilarious mix-up, it seems that the movie still amasses a strong position in Gilbert’s mind. Will he be just as active when the movie is mentioned sometime in the future?
