A high-profile opener at the ongoing Miami Open has the entire tennis community abuzz. The 3-time singles Grand Slam champion Andy Murray will start his campaign at this ATP Masters 1000 event by squaring off against the former world No. 6 Italian player, Matteo Berrettini.
The outdoor hardcourt tournament is underway, with some of the ATP players of high caliber competing at the Hard Rock Stadium. As both Murray and Berrettini will now be vying for glory, it will be interesting to see who emerges victorious in this blockbuster first-round fixture in Miami Gardens.

Andy Murray vs Matteo Berrettini: Miami Open round of 128 match preview
After his round-of-64 defeat at the BNP Paribas Open, Andy Murray is now back on the court at this ATP Masters 1000 event, where he is an unseeded participant. Prior to his campaign at the Indian Wells Masters, the 3-time singles Grand Slam champion also participated in the Dubai Tennis Championship, where he defeated Denis Shapovalov before getting knocked out in the round-of-16 against Ugo Humbert.

Matteo Berrettini, on the other hand, is coming to the Miami Open after his runner-up finish at the Challenger Phoenix. The Italian tennis player defeated the likes of Hugo Gaston and Arthur Cazaux in the initial rounds. Berrettini then overcame Terence Atmane before his semifinal victory against the 7th-seeded Aussie, Aleksandar Vukic. However, in the championship game, the 27-year-old failed to overcome Nuno Borges, who won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6.
Murray vs Berrettini: Head-to-Head
The R128 match between Andy Murray and Matteo Berrettini at the Miami Open will also mark their sixth meeting on the ATP circuit. In their previous meeting at the 2023 Australian Open, the British player managed to prevail in a five-set thriller, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, at Melbourne Park. However, in their overall H2H record on the tour, it’s Berrettini who currently has a 3-2 lead.

Prediction: Murray to come out on top in this R128 match of the Miami Open
The British player has won 14 ATP Masters 1000 titles, while he has a solid 394-134 record on hard court surfaces. Given his brilliant records on the hard courts and vast experience in these tournaments, Murray is the favorite to win this opening-round match at the Miami Open. Berrettini, on the other hand, has only played a handful of games since his injury that forced him to the sidelines.
