Further, he added, “I know that he’s a hard player that relies on a bit of rhythm, so I just tried to keep the points short and sharp, just played aggressive. I can’t let him get on too many groundstrokes, but I’m just having my performance, whether it’s 7-6 in the third or something like this, I’m just happy to get through. You know, a top-10 or top-20 or top-1000, I don’t really care. I can lose to anyone on any given day and I can beat anyone, it’s been the story of my career, so I’m just happy to get through.”

It was an emphatic win for Kyrgios, who made light work of Rublev. In stark contrast, the match began with Rublev breaking Kyrgios’ serve in the third game of the opening set. However, the Australian broke back immediately to level the set 2-2. Kyrgios carried the momentum as Rublev failed to hold his serve in the sixth game of the first set. It proved to be enough for Kyrgios, as he took the opening set 6-3.
