Players have also started showing more concern for ball kids, as Nicolas Jarry did after hitting a ball kid accidentally. Rain had caused several interruptions in the Indian Wells Masters, and it did so in the semifinal bout between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The two found their match paused due to rain. Ball kids usually hold the umbrellas for the player when a match is paused due to a downpour. A ball girl sat beside Sinner and held the umbrella up.

However, it did not take long for the Italian player to take the umbrella from her hand and hold it up himself. His instance, partnered with Jarry’s, won the hearts of the audience and likely caused the two players to gain even more fans than they already had.
