Jannik Sinner’s leadership in tennis is very much evident as he won the Miami Open after only dropping one set in his entire stint. As the Italian player is already planning for the upcoming Paris Olympics, the tennis world is busy singing his praises. Among all these, John McEnroe’s brother Patrick McEnroe, the former American tennis player has drawn some flak from the fans of Novak Djokovic while praising the Italian.

Patrick McEnroe has often been at the center of receiving bashing from Djokovic fans. His current situation with them goes to show that such an interaction is not bound to end anytime soon.

Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open, the ATP Rotterdam, and the Miami Open this year. He has played in four tournaments this year and won three of them, which made McEnroe say, “In the last 6 months….@janniksin is the best player on the planet……and it’s not close”. While some agreed, Djokovic fans were not happy in the slightest as they shared their thoughts. One fan cleared his statement by saying he has been the best for the last three months. He further asked McEnroe to remember the ATP Finals, the Paris Masters, and the US Open.

Another fan said that he has been the best in the last 3 months but also sarcastically stated that it has been close in the last 6 months since Djokovic has won important tournaments. They further said that his comments were like a Monty Python skit.

One fan sarcastically wondered if it was June since McEnroe said 6 months and then questioned him on who won the last two big ATP tournaments, the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals.

One user said that while Sinner is great, McEnroe needs to check his facts again and be respectful.

Yet another fan said that Djokovic won the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals and that Sinner has been the best for the last four months.

Another fan mentioned that he has been the best player this year but not in the last 6 months since Djokovic won in Paris and Turin.

The former player then replied that he had likely missed Sinner’s performance in the Beijing Open, ATP Finals Round Robin, and the Davis Cup.

Differing from his brother, John McEnroe has often shared statements that help him stay on the good side of the fans of the Serbinator.

John McEnroe’s Djokovic bias draws controversy

Commenting during Sinner’s clash with the Serbian star in the Australian Open semifinal, McEnroe went on to take a step too far when the Italian player was leading against Djokovic. McEnroe stated that beating the Serb in five sets would be an “incredibly tall order.” The young Italian won the opening set 6-1 and led from the start of the second set. Despite the Italian’s performance, it was insufficient to satisfy McEnroe.

After Sinner broke Djokovic to lead 2-1 in the second set, a fan tweeted McEnroe’s reaction. They wrote, “John McEnroe is so insufferable. Guy just said Jannik Sinner hasn’t needed to do anything to get up a set and a break on Novak.”

Despite McEnroe’s bias over the 24-time grand slam champion, Sinner prevailed and won the slam. The two brothers have differing opinions about the current state of the sport, which is bound to draw flak from fans of different players.
